Online Access
The court's Public Access Portal, a web-based searchable database, contains basic case information and allows people to settle court-ordered financial obligations. It also allows users to view images of certain court documents, such as complaints and decisions.
The court's online search system features two search options: the Smart Search option, which controls access to general cases, and the Search Hearing option for looking up upcoming court hearings.
In Person Access
Since the court's records reside with the Clerk of Courts, individuals can visit or contact the Civil or Criminal division of the office to inquire about inspecting case files or requesting copies. People can also fill out the form on the Public Information Office's webpage to request any case files from the Cleveland Municipal Court.
Additionally, one can request transcripts for misdemeanor cases through the court's Judicial Services website.
Search By Name or Case Number
The Smart Search option on the Cleveland Municipal Court's Public Access Portal accepts the following search methods:
- Case party name
- Attorney name or bar number
- Business name
- Case number
- Judicial officer
- Citation number
- Cross-reference number
- Warrant number
- Nickname
Depending on the chosen search method, users can filter searches by case type, case status, date of birth, and filing date.
While the Search Hearings option supports most of the same search queries as the smart search database, it does not include warrant, citation, or cross-reference numbers. It also lacks the nickname option but includes a courtroom search type. Additionally, users must enter a date range when using the search hearings system.
Search results display each case's assignment information (case number, assigned date, and assigned judge), names of parties, and court events. Where available, one can click the PDF or document icon above a filing event to view an image of the filed document.
If a query does not return any results, the individual can try using different search parameters or selecting the Sound Like check box if they are entering the wrong names. If nothing still appears, they can contact the court directly.
